Work

Simon David Watson makes drawings and paintings using graphite, charcoal and oil. Currently learning classical atelier techniques, his work uses historical drawing methods to describe the human form.

In his work, Simon is very interested in understanding how to effectively render the illusion of three-dimensionality, while provoking a sense of curiosity and wonder in the viewer.

A selection of his work will be available to view at Irmã Feia, a Lisbon art gallery, from the 14th December 2024.

Original artworks and prints are available to purchase here.

Bio

Simon was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and raised in Lisbon, Portugal, where he now lives and works. He studied architecture and ran his own architectural practice, before realising that his passion lay in drawing and painting the human form. In 2024, following a transformational year-long life-drawing course in NextArt, a Lisbon art school, Simon took another drawing and painting course at the Barcelona Academy of Art. Here, he deepened his understanding of the classical atelier methods, which he now seeks to further expand at LXAtelier, a drawing school in Lisbon.
